Foodies Adventures in Yachats, Oregon – Bread and Roses Bakery

A really great place for breakfast in Yachats!

Foodies Adventures in Yachats, Oregon

This Blog post is part of the Foodies Adventures in Yachats, Oregon series where I highlight restaurants and shops that cater to the epicurean experience in our charming coastal town. Hopefully, you will find the information I supply to be helpful as you plan your Central Oregon Coast vacation in Yachats.

Yachats (YAH-hots) is a perfect getaway for a few days or longer. Nestled serenely between green forests to the east and dramatic ocean waves to the west, you will soon be won over by our small town charm. Yachats is located 25 miles south of Newport on historic and scenic Highway 101. Come on over for a spell.

First, you have to open the door

One blustery October day I dropped in to Bread and Roses Bakery that is tucked next to the Lion’s Club Thrift Shop just off the Commons on 4th Street.

I noticed an interesting little patio alongside as I reached for the front door that I expect gets use on summer days. Once inside, the atmosphere enticed me to first wander about to check out local artwork hanging on the walls. All are available for purchase. One lithograph especially caught my eye, “Make Art, Not War”. Yup, this is my kind of hangout.

I was greeted with a kind smile of acknowledgement by the lady behind the counter as she scurried to attend to a group of older ladies assembled at one of the tables. They were talking and laughing together and, I guessed they were locals, all dolled up for brunch together.

Check out all the delectable options

Whoa! Did I mention the counter? It was amaze-balls filled with delectable creations of croissants, scones, cupcakes and other mouth watering delights. One wonderful looking concoction was described as a nougat; chocolate (yeah, you got my attention), with walnuts and, well, isn’t ‘nougat’ another way to spell ‘decadent’? A sign states they bake wedding cakes which I bet are fabuloso.

I was greeted with a kind smile of acknowledgement…

A great looking quiche was calling my name – unfortunately, I had just finished breakfast, so I kept my appetite in check. Soup of the day was, ‘Ethiopian Lentil’. I asked the young man behind the counter if the lentils were really from Ethiopia. “No, but the spices are. Would you like a taste”? Obviously freshly made, with diced carrots and celery and, well, lentils, in a terra cotta colored broth. Super tasty. And, what customer service! I love finding both good food and customer service running side by side.

Lucy Cheeks to the rescue

Local area Ladies Room Aficionado, Lucy Cheeks, reports:

“the customers only unisex restroom is clean and bright, well-supplied and a pleasant experience for anyone needing that facility. The sink counter appears to be some kind of green stone, but possibly could be colored concrete. Either way, it adds interest to the room. Artwork adorns the walls in the loo, too.”

Thanks, Lucy, for taking the time to test the facilities.

Croissants and cupcakes and nougats, Oh My!

Foodies Adventures in Yachats, Oregon

Meanwhile, I decided to purchase a couple goodies from my favorite section of the display counter to take home to my husband. He is kind of a nice guy and deserves a little treat from my morning wanderings. I selected a croissant named, “Celestial Star”, and a chocolate cupcake that looked like a miniature wedding cake. It was frosted with a lovely white frosting twist and adorned with a chocolate sea horse. Later, we discovered it was also infused with a fudge center. Total yum!

I love finding both good food and customer service running side by side.

I recommend you take the time to wander in to Bread and Roses Bakery for your own foodie adventure. I know I will be back to try out their soup of the day and one of their many sandwiches. They fresh bake sourdough bread every day. Can it get any better? Then, there is the Quiche and the nougat and……

Wow, another successful little adventure in Yachats that calls me back for more.
