Visit our Charming Oregon Coast Village
Where in the world is Yachats, Oregon? Well, read on and you will discover that Yachats is definitely worth the drive.
With a population of about 706 permanent residents, Yachats is a lovely little village and a perfect getaway at any time of the year. Through my blog I share many of the area offerings available for travelers to this majestic little piece of paradise.
If you are looking for a laid back place to kick back and unwind for a few days or more, then, Yachats is for you. Situated between the Oregon Coast mountain range and the mighty Pacific Ocean, the locale is also perfect for hiking, biking, walking and exploring the majestic coast and mountain environs. Yachats, pronounced YAH-hots, is a small town without big name commercial entities that abound in the towns and cities around.
So, where in the world is Yachats, Oregon?
Yachats is located on the Central Oregon Coast about 72 miles west of Corvallis. Yachats is located on Highway 101 and is nearly equidistant between Newport and Florence, about 25 miles, respectively, north and south. The Portland airport via Interstate 5 is 168 miles away, about 3 and ½ hours drive. The Eugene airport is 85 miles away, about a 2 hours drive. You won’t be disappointed!
Things to do in Yachats
There are several eateries in town to satisfy a variety of palates. For example, fresh caught seafood at Luna Sea Fish House or an eclectic menu at the Driftwood Inn. Italian dining at Heidi’s or fine dining at Ona Restaurant are among other dining offerings. The Green Salmon is a must for breakfast or brunch. A stop at Yachats Farm Brewery is always fun for both food and brews. Additionally, some restaurants feature live music in the evenings.
Wander around town awhile and visit a number of shops, boutiques, and art galleries. The Little Log Church Museum is a historical remnant of early years in the coastal area and sometimes hosts events. The Yachats Commons hosts many events throughout the year. A “Farmer’s Market” runs from Mother’s Day through the “Mushroom Festival” in October. The “Winter Festival” runs from Thanksgiving through New Years.
In addition, many fun events are planned for 2017, including a quilt show, a music festival and the annual 4th of July La De Da parade. Bring the kids!
Walking and hiking are in store for you in Yachats
The 804 trail hugs the rocky coast as it runs south through Yachats. View majestic ocean waves as you wander this trail and explore tide pools along the way. Further more, Smelt Sands Park is a fun place to play while the tide is out.
Sit a spell on benches along the trail and enjoy the splendor during high tide as waves collide against ancient basalt rocks. Lava once seeped through the earth’s crust as tectonic plates moved against subduction zones. Wind, rain and waves continue to erode and change the rocky landscape. Consequently, the Central Oregon Coast is known for the wild beauty of our rugged coastline.
Cape Perpetua Scenic Area is located three miles south of Yachats. Majestic Thor’s Well and the Spouting Horn are easily accessible from the interpretive center. Miles of hiking trails abound in the area, from easy to more difficult. Additionally, the interpretive center is wheelchair accessible and is a great place for kids and adults alike to learn about the cape and watch for whales.
Our Sea Anemone Vacation Rental Home
About a mile north of the downtown area, the Sea Anemone, our secluded and private ocean view vacation home, is located at the end of a quiet street where a walking trail meanders through a peaceful spruce thicket to the 804 trail.
Easy access to the 804 trail
Walk 2 minutes through the trees off our yard to reach the 804 beach trail. Views along the 804 trail are spectacular as the surf meets the rocky shore. Tide pools with, well, sea anemones, are fun for exploring. The trail runs south along the rocky coast to the village of Yachats or, walking north, you will find 7 miles of sandy beach. We are fortunate to be located with such easy access to the 804 trail with both the rocky shore and the sandy beach within steps. The trail is popular with walkers and runners.
Check out the ocean view from the living room
Most noteworthy, the Sea Anemone has an ocean view from the living and dining areas of our home. The view is marvelous all year round and I have been thrilled to spot whales on occasion. Sometimes a raft of sea lions is seen bobbing in the surf and always lots of seabirds. We provide a pair of binoculars for closer views.
The movement of the sun as the seasons change provides hallmark sunsets from the deck in summer months. The sky is especially gorgeous when there are distant clouds against the horizon as the sun goes down with breathtaking colors as light reflects off the clouds, a show just for you.
